Year 10 have been completing some lovely work for some of their sections in completing their bronze DofE award. In this year’s cohort we have got 92 pupils completing their DofE which is amazing and the highest number we have yet! On a whole, the students have been organised and eager to start collecting evidence and have been really proud of their efforts so far.
Across the cohort we have got our pupils volunteering in marshalling local park runs on the weekends, helping out in charity shops, primary after school clubs, swimming teaching assistants, teaching young children Spanish, girl guides, helping out at care homes.
For the physical sections we have football, netball, walking, running, swimming, gym, snowboarding and many more.
Finally for the skills section, lots of our pupils are cooking for their neighbours one hour a week, we have someone carpeting (that’s a new one!), playing a musical instrument, sports officiating, reading and memorising the Quran, learning first aid, Bird watching (who knew anyone could see 37 pigeons, 12 starlings, 2 carrion crows and 1 blackbird in the space of one hour around Wythenshawe).
We have received feedback from some of the students’ assessors, one of which has been completing their volunteering section on youth work at Chorlton central church. It is so rewarding to see the time, effort and hard work they are putting into this. It is a lot of work that they commit to in achieving their DofE award, sometimes we think it is just the camping and walking through fields, but it is so much more than that!
P.s. a massive thank you if you are an assessor for one of our students, it really goes a long way, and Well done Year 10!
