On Thursday 14th December, Didsbury High School hosted its annual Winter Showcase. This year was our first full school showcase, with students from Year 7 through to Year 11 taking to the stage to show off their musical talents.
The showcase featured a variety of musical performances by students from different year groups, impressing audiences with their talents and skills in singing and playing instruments.
Steel Band were the first to perform, and they set the mood with a fantastic rendition of Winter Wonderland.
Next, the Orchestra took us through the three movements of Tielman Susato’s Renaissance suite, impressing the audience with their harmony and precision. The Choir followed, filling the auditorium with the beautiful sound of their voices as they sang Vois sur ton chemin and Love Shone Down.
After that, we were treated to more jolly performances from the Orchestra and Steel Band, and heard a delightful rendition of Silent Night from the String ensemble.
Suzie from Year 11 gave the first solo performance of the night with a heart-warming rendition of The Sound of Bells.
Closing the first half of the evening, Year 11 got everyone moving with the festive favourite; I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day.
After a short interval, the concert resumed with another great piece from Steel Band who played Calm Down.
The Choir also returned to sing Silent Night and a moving rendition of Suo Gan, a traditional Welsh lullaby.
The second soloist of the night was Ari in Year 11, who delivered a stunning performance of Impromptu no 2 in B minor.
Next up, we had the talented Jazz Band who gave a lively performance of Feelin’ Good.
The Brass ensemble followed with two festive treats in the form of The Little Drummer Boy and Jingle Bells Reggae!
Then, accompanied by Maissa Mulki on the piano, Senior Voices mesmerised the audience with a touching performance of The Rose by Amanda McBroom.
After that, there were even more spectacular performances from the Choir and Steel Band.
Bringing the evening to a close, everyone sang along as the Orchestra played Jingle Bells before the grand finale of So here it is Merry Christmas, ending the concert on a high note!
This year’s Winter Showcase was a memorable evening full of talented performances.
A huge congratulations and well done to all our students and staff who made the concert such a success – we were blown away by the level of musical talent on display!
