A group of students from Didsbury High School had a unique opportunity to attend a special student day at a the Conservative Party Conference in October 2023.
The students heard from various speakers who shared their perspectives and experiences on working in politics and government.
They included Dr Thérèse Coffey, the Former Environment Secretary, Baroness Evans, member of the House of Lords, and Ben Bradley, MP for Mansfield.
The speakers also answered students’ questions on topics such as climate change, youth services and education.
Students impressed with their knowledge and curiosity about the issues that affect their lives and their future.
Over lunch, the students were able to visit the stands of various charities, businesses and media organisations that were exhibiting at the conference.
They saw how the media covers major events and politics, and had the chance to see GB and Sky News being filmed live as well as a live broadcast of the News Agents podcast.
Later on, students heard from an entrepreneurs panel, where they learned about how they could start their own business or social enterprise.
They listened to inspiring stories from successful entrepreneurs who had overcome various challenges and obstacles to achieve their goals.
Finally, the students heard a brief talk from Akshata Murty, the wife of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
