In a boot camp led by Flight Crowd, Year 12 students from Didsbury Sixth Form learned about the future of flight and careers in Sustainable Aviation.

Earlier this year, students from Didsbury Sixth Form (DSF) took part in Flight Crowd’s week-long boot camp as part of the Propel into Future Flight series, hosted by the Department for Transport and Civil Aviation Authority

The boot camp allowed participants to solve an industry challenge, collaborate with and learn from leading STEM and Air Mobility experts, and be empowered to pursue a career in STEM, Transportation, Business, and Sustainable Aviation.

Flight Crowd is a UK not-for-profit Air Mobility Community established to inform, engage and inspire the public on the future of flight.

They aim to empower communities and increase employability within the Electric Aviation sector.

As part of the boot camp, students took part in virtual workshops, designing an electric aircraft and attending presentations from industry experts.

Students heard from a diverse range of professionals who spoke about their experiences and shared their career journeys.

During the week, they also received one-to-one careers support and discovered the variety of roles in the field of Air Mobility, from piloting and vehicle design to city planning and advertising.

The boot camp concluded with an in-person event held at the Science and Industry Museum.

At the event, students had the opportunity to work in teams to design drones, meet and network with STEAM and Aerospace professionals, and present their design challenge to a panel of expert judges.

Joseph, a student from DSF, said:
“Meeting the design and those requirements was quite challenging, but it was quite a nice challenge which really pushed our boundaries.”

Sarah, another DSF student, said:
“It helped me build more social skills and public speaking skills, and I really enjoyed it.”

The Propel into Future Flight boot camp was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their skills, hear from experts, and learn about the field of STEM and Aviation.

Thank you to Flight Crowd for providing this valuable experience for our students!
