On Thursday 25th January, 60 students from Didsbury High School took a trip to the Imperial War Museum North (IWMN) for a special event.
The Year 10 History students were invited by the IWMN Learning North Project to engage in ‘Life in Germany’ sessions to enrich their understanding of Germany between 1890-1945 and complement their GCSE studies.
Through facilitated discussions and interactive activities, they deepened their understanding of how political, economic, and social change in Germany affected the people who live there.
They used artefacts and archive material to make links between individuals, groups, and historical events.
By taking part in the session, students gained insight into the breadth of experience of people living in Germany at that time, through the personal stories of men, women and children.
It helped them to recognise the impact of propaganda and indoctrination in Nazi Germany, as well as understand how changes in laws and policy impacted on different sections of society.
The trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to enhance their understanding of ‘Life in Germany’, thank you to the IWM North for inviting us!
